Chicago, IL - August 8, 2023
In a major trade, the San Antonio Spurs have sent All-Star forward DeMar DeRozan to the Chicago Bulls. The deal was announced today by the Bulls and is pending a physical.
DeRozan, a four-time All-Star, is coming off a season in which he averaged 21.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game for the Spurs. He is known for his mid-range shooting ability and his strong defense.
The Bulls are hoping that DeRozan will be a key piece in their quest to return to the playoffs. The team has not made the postseason since 2017 and is looking to make a run at the Eastern Conference title this year.
In exchange for DeRozan, the Spurs are receiving forward Thaddeus Young, guard Al-Farouq Aminu, a protected first-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and two second-round picks in the 2023 and 2024 NBA Drafts.
DeRozan is expected to join the Bulls for training camp later this month.
